Kursbeschreibung / Course Description: This course introduces students with a background in the sciences or engineering to current and emerging systems for the generation of electricity and transportation fuels from renewable resources. Analysis of renewable energy systems will emphasize sustainability principles, particularly within the context of net greenhouse gas (GHG) generation. Technology-based topics will highlight scientific and engineering principles underlying current and emerging technologies for solar energy, bioenergy, H2 energy, and energy storage. Planning and policy topics will highlight analysis of current and future global energy flows, and the societal, economic, and environmental implications of deploying renewable energy systems. Case studies will also include examples of sustainable energy systems under development in the United States and European Union countries, with an emphasis on Austria. The course delivery will include group learning in student teams.
